About Me: Little Business, Big Dreams

Meet the Mind Behind the Madness!

Hey, there! I'm Abigail! 🙋🏼‍♀️

I'm a Torah-Observant Christian author and entrepreneur with a busy brain, a love of research, a touch of crazy, and a whole lot of flair for adventure! My hobbies are as broad as the horizon and as varied as mountain terrain, but I especially love working with words. You take that crazy mix and shake it up, and out comes a rather ambitious author with an eye toward owning her own press someday and a passion for faith that bleeds into every story she writes . . . Yep, that's me.

Lexi T. Walker: Behind the Pen Name

“Okay, Abigail,” you may say. “What is the purpose of a pen name if not for anonymity?

Fun. Pure amusement. 😁

I was dubbed “The Walking Dictionary” by a good friend years ago. Like any good word nerd, I switched it up for a synonym and became “The Walking Lexicon” . . . Lexi T. Walker.

That’s the pun behind the name. But why use one at all? (As if liking it isn’t good enough reason.)

Very simply, I have nonfiction projects I would like to publish one day, and I like the organizational aspect of using my real name for nonfiction and business, and my pen name for fiction.

Could I keep them separate? Sure. But I am already running a business entirely by myself, and I simply don’t have the time or interest in anonymity needed to actually maintain websites, social media, etc. for two separate internet personas. So Abigail and “Lexi” share accounts, because both are me. 😂

The Servant's Song Story

The Early Days

Servant’s Song Publishing is the impossible dream.

From my earliest memories—before I even knew the word entrepreneur—I planned to be my own boss. Even when I was looking at other jobs as a teenager, I considered them the appetizer, not the main course. That said, starting a business straight out of highschool took me by surprise.

It was a slow day back in 2022 when my career was accidentally launched. Life was pretty simple. I worked my parents’ farm, helped with housework and babysitting, and had my hobbies. I was still considering midwifery, but making no real moves in that direction, and was just getting back into writing fiction after a two year hiatus.

~~~
That hiatus itself was unexpected. As a young teen I’d had more than sixty novels in progress, a few of them nearly finished, and planned to publish them before my seventeenth birthday. Looking back, those stories were nowhere near being publishable. I never had the chance to discover that the hard way because God prompted me to take a break . . . and I deleted all of those stories. I didn’t write fiction for two years.
But back to business . . .
~~~

I was sitting on the porch, chatting with friends and writing, when my mom walked by.

“Someone in my Facebook group is looking for someone to edit and format his book. Do you want the job?”

I paused, considering. “Sure.”

“How much do you want to charge?” she asked, texting as she talked.

I did the math in my head. I had most of the software, but not what I would need for formatting it. I didn’t know how to format books, and all the editing I’d done to that point was on my own and my friends’ writing. But I was a fast learner.

“$100? That should cover the software I need.”

And thus, Servant’s Song Publishing was born.

That first client was incredibly gracious and patient as I figured out what I was doing, and while it took longer than it should have for a professional, he was happy with the end product.

Turned out, I loved that work.

I threw myself into studying writing, editing, sales, and anything else that seemed relevant. I joined social media for the first time (a monumental decision for an introvert, believe me) and started joining free and paid webinars and coaching sessions.

I heard that most businesses fail in their first three years, and I decided . . . I was going to skip that step.

If I was going to do this, I was going to succeed.

The Vision

I lied when I said Servant’s Song Publishing was born in 2022 (officially in 2023).

Actually, I had been kicking this idea around for years. Before the fiction hiatus, I wanted to run my own little publishing house. I dreamed of it being a Christian multimedia company, with teams of writers, editors, illustrators, audiobook narrators, music composers . . . even potentially a movie division.

Wouldn’t that be crazy?

I realized when I finally started the business that those are far-fetched dreams, but I don’t consider them impossible. For now, this is just me doing what I can to support other indie authors.

The Servant’s Song vision is to empower Christian authors to publish high quality work that brings light to the world and glory to God. I believe that as followers of Christ we are called to be the salt of the earth and the city on a hill, living life to the fullest and bringing our full potential to fruition to walk out the righteousness God set before us to do. We are soldiers of light in an ever-darkening world, and I want to facilitate and inspire others to be courageous in walking—and writing—out that calling.

Where Is Servant's Song Going Next?

Maybe I’ll expand . . . who can say?

The last three years have been spent learning, organizing, and honing my skills. I slacked off building my portfolio in favor of building a social media presence, and my immediate focus is to expand my portfolio and give my clients the comfort that the last three years were not in vain and my work is as good as I say it is. 😏 Hazards of doing everything oneself is that there are only 24 hours in a day to put to use and one can’t do everything.

I’m also bringing other projects I began in the last three years to fruition, and plugging away writing and publishing my own books.

I have big plans for the next 3-5 years, but I have to keep some secrets to surprise you with. 🤭
